Kitchen Plinths

The home is where we will spend a majority of our lives so it is no surprise that everyone wants to make it look and feel as comfortable as possible. As homeowners get more concerned each day about how functional and beautiful their homes look, one particular feature that has been increasingly gaining prominence. Although you might not be seeing them in too many households around right now, rest assured that the popularity of kitchen plinths is on an upward rising trend.

Also commonly known as kickboards, kitchen plinths are mainly used to create a visual effect of solidarity for the furniture in your home. By adding a kitchen plinth directly to the bottom of certain furniture, it will give off the illusion that the furniture piece is sitting directly on the floor itself. The result of this base is a very solid, finished look that is aesthetically stunning.

Kitchen plinths used to be made using the same material, or at least color and shade, of the furniture it is placed under. However, all that has changed and we no longer have to stick with such rigid rules in our contemporary world. These days, using kitchen plinths made of stainless steel or other such materials is rather common. This actually serves to create a very modern and stylish looking effect for your kitchen, as the shiny, metallic gloss of the stainless steel blends in with the elegant beauty of your wooden furniture.

Apart from the above mentioned points, another reason for the kitchen plinth being so well loved is that it is cheap. Compared to the various other methods available, kitchen plinths are an extremely affordable alternative to giving your kitchen a brand new look.

Kitchen plinths should always be installed by a professional. If you are looking to get one, it would be advised to source for a reliable contractor instead of doing it on your own.

What is the best way to fit kitchen plinths? I’ve been trying to use the clips they come with but its so hard to make sure everything lines up OK.

The clips work find if everything is level and even. if this is not the case they can take some fiddling with. Another option is if the plinth is cut to hight well you can drill though the bottom of the units and screw the plinth in place.

its always a good idea to counter sink the screw holes so you still have a nice even surface in you base units.

Also if your still struggling you can drill through the top part of the plinth straigh through so you can screw into the leg. Just make sure you do it high enough that you cant see the screws.
